Slumdog millionaire is about a Muslim young man who grew up on the slums of Mumbai, he is given an opportunity to be a contestant on the biggest game show in India (Who wants to be a Millionaire). Jamal isn’t the typical Slum dweller as he is more intelligent than others. Jamal proves this in the scene where the game show host tells him an answer. The game show host tells Jamal about how he has the capability to be as rich and famous as him. The host then leaves and Jamal sees he’s left the answer B. in the condensation of the mirror. Most people from the slums are stereotyped to be very gullible, the game show host believed in that stereotype so he deliberately gives Jamal the wrong answer. Jamal knows that the game show host would never give him the right answer as the game show host told him that he came from rags to riches. The host wouldn’t want anyone on the same level as him. When they get back to the show is asked the question. Jamal is obviously suspicious of the host so he goes for 50/50. A. and C. are removed from the grid. Jamal deducts that the answer is D. Even though the host insists it’s B. Seeing as the host wouldn’t just off the cuff give him the correct answer. He gets the answer right and is through to the next round. This proves that you shouldn’t underestimate people. Even though he did get through he gets arrested when the show ends; half way through Jamal’s game. As he is thought to be cheating. Even though he only knew the answers due to his life experiences.
