My Inspirations and how they present themsleves

I am going to analyse and anatomize various photos of people who I personally deem as an inspiration. I’ll analyse their demeanour and determine what parts of their personality can shine through a photo.

Liam Malone

Malone is a double amputee blade runner.

We can see in this photo that he is in the middle of training and the elephant in the room is; he has no legs. This photo presents to the viewer that a disability of that sort does not equate to what he can and can’t-do. I feel this is a powerful photo as it shows what essentially is a “superhuman” who defies what being “able” means as he is more “able” to run than most able-bodied people, and it doesn’t take a scientist to see he’s athletic and has an element of determinacy to his face. We can also conclude he is about to go for a lap as his running blades are in a walking stance.

From this photo, we can immediately decipher that he is in his work environment, his hair shaggy and untidy after a 400-metre run. We can interpret this photo as a symbol of Malone’s personality. He does not care about his physical appearance as he had just won a gold medal which evidently shows he values his achievements much more than trivial things like looks. His eyes are slightly puffed as if he’d been crying. This gives the whole photo a sense of vulnerability as well which is what people want to see as it helps us identify with him more.

Here we see Malone looking like the everyday man, this helps us as the viewers identify with him as he is presenting himself as a regular man rather than the elite athlete he is usually presented as. This was an important photo to include as we sometimes forget that most people who are influential or well-known are an average Joe.  just like you or me.

Here we can see Malone handing out food and water to children, we can interpret this as a representation of his caring and loving nature to other people. So not only is he an elite athlete he is somewhat of a philanthropic person.

What we can decipher from these photos is that Liam Malone is an elite athlete who wants to help others and does not care about minuscule things like appearance but does care about achieving and winning.

I am also going to analyse some photos of well-known animator and voice actor Justin Roiland. I thought he would be a good person to add to this as his line of work is closer to the kind of media I’d like to do rather than Malone. Roiland inspires me as he works very hard but is also very humble and this can be seen in his photos.

Here we see Roiland in what looks to be a photoshoot or promotional shot of sorts and what we can immediately identify is that Roiland does not take himself seriously due to his facial expression and he is very laid back by looking at his clothes.

Here we see Roiland with the co-creator of his hit show Rick and Morty; Dan Harmon. This is a more serious photo and we can decipher that even though Justin can be goofy as hell he also takes his art form very seriously.  I think Roiland is a perfect balance of goofy and serious in these two photos. In the creative industry, of course, you have to be serious but being goofy and having less of a front really benefits you, in the long run, these days viewers and audiences want to identify with their favourite writers and directors just as much as the characters of their shows/films. They’d gladly go to conventions like comic con to meet and interact with their favourite writers and directors just as much as their favourite actors because they want to tell them how much they admire their writing and their art.
